Hailing from Versailles, just outside Paris, known internationally for its Palace but also for some of France’s greatest musical exports – Phoenix, Air, Alex Gopher and Etienne de Crécy, not to mention Daft Punk, Saint Michel are following in the footsteps of their Versailles co-citizens!
The duo is releasing its 1st album on October 21 and eager to present their deftly blends synth swells, clipped beats and sun-warmed melodies that create what they call “sentimental electro-pop”. “Making Love & Climbing” has been entirely produced by the band except from one track produced by Grammy Award winner Pontus Winnberg from Miike Snow and it has been mixed by Alex Gopher. Another great collaboration is Supertramp’s saxophone player John Helliwell featured on “Ceci n’est pas une chanson”.
Their music influences are : Radiohead and The Beatles for the classic pop side. Also: folk musicians like Nick Drake and Simon & Garfunkel; electronic music from Modeselektor, Flying Lotus and Aphex Twin; old reggae music, and Grizzly Bear and Tame Impala.
The French media are all raving about these two super talented singers/songwriters/producers! Saint Michel quickly became the coolest band in France and one of the newcomers to watch by Blackbookmag.com! Kitsuné Maison included one of their tracks in its 10th anniversary compilation. Gildas Kitsune’s remix of “Katherine” is included in “Kitsuné Soleil 2” to be released in July. They were featured on Alex Gopher’s new EP remixed by Digitalism and Falcon and they toured with Sébastien Tellier!
