French Grammy Winners

The 59th annual Grammy Awards were presented last night in Los Angeles at the Staples Center, and once again, French musicians, labels, and producers were well-represented. After receiving 13 nominations, French individuals and music companies were awarded four times at the ceremony. Winners included Gregory Porter, whose fourth studio album, ‘Take Me to the Alley’, was named the Best Jazz Vocal Album of 2016. Warner France took home the prize for Best Box for their inspired 100 year retrospective of Edith Piaf’s life work, ‘Edith Piaf 1915 – 2015’. In classical music, French conductor Ludovic Morlot’s album of Dutilleux’s music took home the prize for Best Surround Sound Album, and a Chuco Valdes release from French label Harmonia Mundi / Jazz Village was awarded as the Best Latin Jazz Album.

In addition, French Touch pioneers Daft Punk made their live comeback in a performance with recent collaborator The Weeknd, which you can watch here. The last time they performed was at the same ceremony in 2014, when they played “Get Lucky” alongside Pharrell and Nile Rodgers
