May 18th, Gary Lucas invites Demi-Mondaine @ The Bellhouse Brooklyn, NY
On Friday May 18th guitarist extraordinaire Gary Lucas performs with his psychedelic supergroup Gods and Monsters at The Bellhouse Brooklyn, in a gala evening with a decidely Francophile feel to it. Special guest Parisien underground sirene Beatrice Demi-Mondaine will sing some of Gary’s songs co-written with Jeff Buckley. And opening from Montreal, the avant-femme duo Institutional Prostitution (Sadaf Ha and Melissa Gagne).
Gary Lucas has been called “one of the best and most original guitarists in America” by Rolling Stone.The Grammy-nominated songwriter and recording artist has released over 20 acclaimed albums since his days as a featured soloist with rock visionary Captain Beefheart, and is well-known to French audiences as the co-writer of Jeff Buckley’s famous songs “Grace” and “Mojo Pin”.

Gods and Monsters includes Ernie Brooks (Modern Lovers) on bass, Billy Ficca (Television) on drums, Jason Candler (Hungry March Band) on alto sax, and Joe Hendel (Gods and Monsters) on trombone and keyboards.They have been described as “an underground rock fan’s dream team” by The New Yorker. They will perform songs from their latest album “The Ordeal of Civiity”, produced by Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads).

Flying in from Paris specially for this show is lovely French underground sirene Beatrice Demi-Mondaine, who has worked with Gary in Paris and NYC previously.
Beatrice will sing some of the songs Lucas co-wrote and performed with Jeff Buckley, including “Grace” and “Mojo Pin”.
