New LP from Kellylee Evans Out Today
Kellylee Evans, a charismatic jazz vocalist with cross-genre finesse drops her second LP today, I Remember When.
Born in Canada to Jamaican parents, Evans was a second-place finalist in the 2004 Thelonious Monk Competition (one of if not the most prestigious award the jazz world dons upon its young talents), a contest which has shown an affinity for Francophone singers (Cyrille Aimée and Cécile McLorin Salvant were finalists in 2010). Since then, Evans has garnered praise for her first album Nina, a tribute to the celebrated cultural icon, Nina Simone. That album was released on French label Plus Loin in 2010. I Remember When, out today on Motéma features the standout track “And So We Dance”, Evans’ dynamic, soulful take on the massively popular electro dance track by Belgian star Stromae, “Alors on Danse“.
